In accordance with the Victorian Local Authorities Award 2001, reimbursement of expenses is available for Councillors who use their own private vehicle.
The reimbursement is payable for the use of a private vehicle for:
- attendance at Ordinary or Special Meetings of Council;
- attendance at Council Committee Meetings;
- attendance at Ordinary, Committee or Sub-Committee Meetings of State, or Regional or local Organisations where the Councillor has, by Council resolution, been elected as a Council delegate;
- attendance at conferences and seminars where such attendance by a Councillor has been approved by the Council, the Mayor, the Chief Executive Officer or such other authorised Committee designated by Council;
- attendance at inspections and meetings and functions within or outside the City relative to the duties of Office as a Councillor;
- to and from the Airport, rail or bus station, or other point from where travel to conferences and seminars commences;
- attendance at official Council functions where a Councillor uses his/her car to attend an approved interstate meeting, conference, seminar or engagement.
The total claim for use of a vehicle shall not exceed the cost of air travel and transfers. For reimbursement to be paid a record of private vehicle use (Travel Claim Form) must be maintained by the Councillor, signed and submitted to Jo Thorn or email on a monthly basis.
