Book Training or a Conference

On a regular basis, Councillors receive information on training sessions and conferences that are often relevant to them in their role as an elected member.

If there is a training session or conference that you would like to attend, all you need to do is contact Jo Thorn via phone 8571 5230 or email Jo.Thorn@cgd.vic.gov.au and she will make the necessary arrangements for you to attend.

If there is a particular area of interest that you would like to further your knowledge in, please advise Jo Thorn and she will, in conjunction with the Governance Unit, endeavour to find out what training is available in your area of interest.

Overseas conferences must be approved by Council. Following any overseas or interstate travel, Councillors must complete a Travel Register Form. Please refer to the below link to access the Travel Policy and Travel Register Form.

Travel Policy

Guidelines for attending seminars and conferences are set out in the Councillor Support and Reimbursement Policy.

Book a Meeting Room

Councillors are often required to meet with groups of people to discuss various issues relating to their ward or CGD. While Councillors have the use of an office at Dandenong, this office does not cater for more than four people at any one time.

In the event that you are required to meet with more than three constituents at any one time, there are a number of meeting rooms available at the Dandenong Civic Centre and Springvale Community Hub that may be booked by Councillors depending on availability.

Bookings of all meeting rooms are essential to ensure availability and the rostering of hall-keeping staff. Please note that hall-keeping staff must be on duty if meeting with external guests.

You can book a meeting room by contacting Jo Thorn on 8571 5230 or email.

You will be required to provide the following details when making your booking:

  • Date
  • Time
  • Purpose of meeting
  • Preferred location (Dandenong or Springvale)
  • Number of people attending the meeting - Details of any audio equipment you may need (television, video, data light show, microphone, lecturn etc.)
  • If you require tea/coffee
  • Contact name and number
  • Cancellations

If for some reason your meeting is not going ahead as planned, please ensure that you contact the person you made the booking with to cancel the room so that others may use it.

Important Information: Under no circumstance are you to leave a meeting room unattended if you have external guests, and please ensure that all guests are signed in and escorted from the building at the close of the meeting.
